Wine Details & Tasting Notes

As I said previously, I know Ron from purchasing fruit from his vineyard and have always been a  huge fan of the wines that Megan Baccitich (Paul Hobbs former Director of Winemaking) makes for him. Megan is incredibly talented, always nailing the right balance of richness, structure, depth and complexity.

For my next trick, I've managed to get my hands on 56 cases of the no-expense-spared, 100% new French oak, 94-point Sage Ridge Cabernet.

This is a spectacular, mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon from the newly emerging powerhouse, Sage Ridge Vineyard (planted by Judy Jordan and home to Russell Bevans 97-Point, $200 Cabernet - more info below).

Normally $128/bottle, it is now available for well-over 60% OFF, just $599/case or $49/bottle DELIVERED! (basically the wholesale price delivered to your door).

I recommend decanting this wine for a couple of hours or, my favorite, the 24-hour decant (this does not mean decant the wine for 24-hours, its means this).

Opaque in the glass but not quite squid ink. The bouquet is dense and brooding with black fruit, violets and savory herb cosseted by gobs of toasty new French oak (100% new) and vanilla bean. Dense yet impeccably-balanced on entry with juicy cassis and liquid cacao arrayed over powerful-yet-succulent tannins chalk full of crushed red rock and iron minerality. The finish is long and smooth, the layers just beginning to crack open.

Given two years to age in all-new French oak, this impressive wine is well integrated and mountain-structured, showing grippy tannin and plenty of power. Tart red fruit, a trace of vanilla and toasted oak round out the intensity, offering savory earth and herb along the complex way.

93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petite Verdot

100% new French oak, 24-months

About Sage Ridge:
This Cabernet Sauvignon blend reigns from an iconic estate perched on a mountain on the Eastern s
ide of Napa Valley. Overlooking Pritchard Hill and Lake Hennessey, the vineyard blocks of this dynamic property resemble patchwork, and each section is unique. The diversity of the soils, and that there are sedimentary soils present, may have been what appealed to legendary Winemaker Judy Jordan (also a Stanford-trained Geologist) when she purchased the estate. The 900-1400 feet elevation of the site dictates many of the qualities of the resulting wines. Low yielding vines produce intense flavors and concentration, increased UV light exposure and good air flow provide for optimal phenolic ripening and a prolonged growing season, both of which influence tannin structure. With Judy’s stewardship of the land and dedication to precision farming, Sage Ridge Vineyard is definitely a name to watch!
