Wine Details & Tasting Notes

I've tasted the Xavier Vignon 2019 Gigondas at numerous trade shows over the last 6-months and it gets better every time. Big, rich, dense, meaty, lovely and chewy along with deep, dark and delicious are just a few of the adjectives ascribed in my notes.

Sourced from high-altitude, 80+-year-old Grenache vines on the high slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail, this is powerfully rich Grenache like you've never had before...sumptuous and ethereal with fantastic structure and complexity.

Normally $30-$40+/bottle, this spectacular 93-point (WA) wine is yours today for just $29!

But, hurry, we have only 56 cases available!

Swirls of black raspberry ice cream and dark chocolate combine in Vignon's 2019 Gigondas, a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre from numerous small parcels dotted around the appellation. Matured in a large wooden vat, there's no apparent oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, ample concentration and a bright, vibrant—and long—finish. With its combination of intensity and tension, it should drink well for a decade or more. 93-points, The Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski

My notes:
Opaque and brooding in the glass but opens up beautifully with a just a minute of swirling. Meaty, graphitic core is haloed with seasoned french oak, black pepper candied cherry and boysenberry fruit. On the palate, the wine is virile and sexy with generous weight and extraction but beautifully balanced and vibrant with chewy tannins spread throughout the lush mouthfeel. Fantastic! The length lingers for a good minute+ with notes of candied fruit, graham cracker, and peppery lavender splaying out in an absolutely magic carpet ride of a finish. Enjoy over the next decade+. Yum bomb!
