Wine Details & Tasting Notes

For three generations, the Fantinel family has dry farmed vineyards flanked by old oaks, chestnuts, and acacia trees in the northeastern-most corner of Italy at the base of the Alps on the Slovenian border.

These La Roncaia vineyards are planted atop an ancient seabed that's lifted up from the colliding of the African and European plates. These uplifted sandstone deposits give the La Roncaia wines excellent soils for burying deep roots within.

My notes:

La Roncaia Cabernet Franc 2019 Friuli Colli Orientali DOC - $35/bottle MSRP
91-points James Suckling
A richly pyrazinic nose, almost Chinon-like, that immediately indicates Old World quality; fresh sliced red bell peppers and earthy soils dominate the nose. The entry continues the show, adding in an elegant tannin frame hung with resinous red and black fruit making for a mouth watering experience. The finish is dry and reverberates with red fruit character seamlessly integrated with a refined and deftly accented barrel regimen. An excellent wine for a meal, but equally exceptional on its own.
