Wine Details & Tasting Notes

Rated 91-Points, James Suckling

If you like a rich, barrel-fermented Chardonnay, look no further than the Blas Munoz Old Vine Chardonnay - it's a fantastic wine.

Folks, trust me on this one.

Crafted from 35+ year-old-vines planted in low-yielding, rocky, calcareous soils, this beautiful 100% new oak barrel-fermented Chardonnay combines richness and verve with an energetic, glycerin-driven mouthfeel that will thrill Chardonnay lovers of all stripes.

The 2021 and 2020 were both rated 91-points by James Suckling, but I chose to go with the 2021 because IMHO, its simply a better wine due to lower yields resulting in more concentration and energy.

Intense yellow with golden rim. Beautifully expressive despite its youth (and it'll really be singing when it arrives next Spring), presenting at first a bouquet akin to a baked caramel apple with kiss of cinnamon spice but quickly opening up to become more delineated with stone fruit, fresh croissant and lemon blossom rounded out with crème brulee and custard notes. Richly textured, round and silky on entry with a glycerin-like mid-palete amply supported by mouthwatering lemon-driven minerality to keep things vibrant and lively. Toasty, tangy and utterly delicious, this concentrated Chardonnay drinks beautifully now and will age another decade.
