A rare bird this Loire Valley Rosé.
Only about 2,000 acres in the entirety of the Loire Valley are allowably classified as Loire Valley Rosé and considerably less of that is planted with what is considered one of the finest Rosé producing varietals, Cabernet Franc.
Lot 293 Loire Valley Rosé of Cabernet Franc was produced for us by Thierry Veron (a small
vigneron actually located further east in Sancerre) and his son Frédéric, from a small parcel of shale and carboniferous limestone clay just outside Saumur's Anjou region.
Thierry's Sancerre Rose has modest distribution here in the US at $22-$24/bottle but his Loire Rose of Cabernet Franc has never been exported so I can't provide a comparative price; however,
I think its fair to say this wine would retail upwards of $20/bottle.
Its a steal at $69/6-pack. There are only 400 cases available.
Raspberry pink with glimmer of violet (in fact, there is a bit more of a light purple hue to the actual wine than seen here). Gorgeously fruited with raspberry and orange blossom uplifted by pretty minerality and a kiss of lilac. Blood orange and strawberry join the chorus with air. Succulent and juicy on entry with a mouthwatering cascade of pretty red fruits, passionfruit and mineral in a long, pure finish. This is a super-pretty wine, rich yet energetic with perfectly ripe yet nuanced fruit complexed by citrusy minerality.
