93-POINTS, GOLD MEDAL 2021 SOMMELIERS CHALLENGE WINE COMPETITION
The perfect Chardonnay? While this wine is an absolute crowd-pleaser, its anything but middle-of-the-road.
Quintessentially California, its beautifully crafted from from the cool climate of Jameson Canyon, just a stones throw from Carneros from a small, 10-acre estate vineyard planted in the alluvial's coming off of Sugarloaf Mountain. The producer has five decades of vineyard management and winemaking experience in Napa Valley and the consulting winemaker is an undeniable force in Napa Valley to boot.
From 2009 through 2018, this wine has 92-94-point scores from the Wine Spectator (save for an 88 and an 89 in lesser Chardonnay vintages) and retails for over $40/bottle. Its a very expressive and well-balanced expression with full malolactic fermentation,100% barrel-fermentation and lees ageing perfectly taming the vibrant acidity. This is sunshine in a bottle!
Whether you like Rombauer or Cakebread, this wine will have very broad appeal. Bottled in June, its already drinking nicely.
Beautifully expressive right out of the bottle with toasted brioche, pot de creme and hints of pineapple mixing with orange marmalade. As it opens up it, mineral notes complex the bouquet beautifully with lemon curd and toasted hazelnut joining the chorus. Creamy and succulent on entry with rich, spicy apple pie, toasted caramel and brown sugar perfectly attenuated over a suave, elegant structure with huge length. With richness and structure in perfect balance, this is likely to be our most popular Chardonnay ever.
