Wine Details & Tasting Notes

Lot 279 is sourced from the legendary Skillogalee Winery in the Clare Valley of Australia and is from their top-of-the-line Trevarrick Shiraz program. The wine retails in Australia for just over $70 out the cellar door (2012 scored 97-Points from James Halliday) and I suspect it would be priced in the $50-60 range here in the US given the strong dollar. However, its not sold here which is why they do not mind me mentioning their name.

The winery recently changed hands and, due to COVID-related shutdowns, the new winemaker is trimming inventory as necessary. They are still selling the 2015 and we've laid our hands on the lions share of the 2016.

Priced at $66/6-pack. Good deal, no?

The Clare Valley is a relatively cool-climate versus The Barossa and produces a wine with a focused and concentrated style balanced with seamless elegance. Black pepper, fennel, leather upholstery, hot cinnamon, and cherry hard candy are topped with a lovely menthol topnote. The palate is seamless, rich and juicy with unctuous candied black cherry and savory notes of lavender-herbed lamb punctuated with fine french oak tannins in a mouth-watering finish. Remarkably energetic and fresh for a 2016 wine thanks to the large format oak combo.
