Veterans of this list dating back to the “before” times will remember our decade+ run of Arroyo Seco hits, and we’re proud to debut our first Arroyo Seco Chardonnay under this program. One of the oldest, smallest, and most underrated AVAs in the entire state, Arroyo Seco is an absolute gold mine of high-quality wineries, with a handful that have been at the craft for over 50 years. Given it’s our inaugural Chardonnay release from the region, we had to go right to the top end of the spectrum.

Tucked up against the Santa Lucia Mountains, at the end of the Salinas River Valley sits the Arroyo Seco AVA. With its ideal southeastern aspect, the area receives maximum morning sun; however, the defining factor is a relentless wind funneled off Monterey Bay, carrying a blanket of fog that provides crucial moisture in a low-rainfall region. Coarse, rocky loam soils are difficult for roots to penetrate, limiting yields and reducing berry size.

Together, these conditions form a wonderful ecosystem for crafting the Chablis-inspired New World Chardonnay that our source has mastered. Lot 488 underwent full-malolactic fermentation, imbuing it with a subtle creaminess to perfectly complement the vineyard's terroir and the grape’s natural acidity. After fermentation, it settled into a neutral barrel program of 100% French oak to accent its Burgundian qualities.

A beautiful sunbeam of a pour invites you into a nose of golden apples, crème brûlée, wet stones, and delicate tropical tones haloed by fresh bread and foraged mushrooms. The entry is expertly balanced, with medium acidity and a brilliant structure accented by a chalky minerality and a creamy texture that feels just about weightless. The finish is clean, long, and kissed by white florals, apples, and flecks of vanilla. Delectable.
