White wine aficionados, run, don't walk to the buy line...we've only 200 mixed cases!

For three generations, the Fantinel family has tended vineyards flanked by old oaks, chestnuts, and acacia trees, rooted in clay marl and and sandstone millennia-old, swept by maritime-influenced breezes at the northeastern-most corner of Italy and Slovenia, situated at the base of the Alps in Friuli Collio Orientale - the pinnacle of the the Venezia region.

All dry-farmed, the La Roncaia vineyards encircle a hilltop of ancient seabed that's lifted up from the colliding of the African and European plates. As you can see in the header image, the soils are shaley, and crumble in your hand with the slightest touch ; these are the sandstone deposits that give the La Roncaia wines an excellent saline character with peak minerality injections - great for burying deep roots within.

On offer today is a set of four OUTSTANDING whites under their label, all with unique characteristics, yet tied together by a terroir that only comes from this singular place. I cannot express enough how high the quality is here.

A mixed 12-bottle case with 3-bottles of each selection would run you north of $430/case, however, today it's yours for just $199/mixed-case with coupon code ITALY at checkout, a savings of well-over 50%!

And, when I say "outstanding" let this little anecdote explain what I mean: When I first tasted through these wines, I, per usual, was diligent about my note taking...with one exception. It's been YEARS since I was so enraptured by a wine I forgot to write a single thing. The Eclisse is about as "drop-the-mic" as a white wine gets. It floored me, I completely forgot to write a single word while buried in that glass. You'll find nothing like it, trust me. Thankfully, a quick call got another bottle on the road to document the wine for these pages. To that extent, my notes:

La Roncaia Pinot Grigio 2020 Friuli Colli Orientali DOC - $40/bottle MSRP
95-points Decanter
A varietally correct Pinot Grigio with a strong sense of place that only Italy can offer. Barrel-fermented, beautifully perfumed and uplifted, almost jumping out of the glass with delineated green vetiver, exotic kiwi and kumquat and a backbone of peach and honeysuckle. The entry is vibrant with melt-in-your-mouth pear, citrus, and vanilla uplifted by gorgeous acidity. The finish is bolstered by striking length and mineral-laden complexity, rounding out a remarkable terroir showcase. 13.5% alc.

La Roncaia Friulano 2020 Friuli Colli Orientali DOC - $32/bottle MSRP 90-points James Suckling
Another gorgeous nose for a rockstar Italian house: marzipan, lemon blossoms, apple skins, and exotic lily perfume the nose. Viscous but centered on the palate with a solid core of fruit, deeper fragrance, and rock that resolves in an almost deceptively clean finish - then the umami factor kicks in with further exotic, almost purple meadow flowers, blanched almonds, and river stone essence. The wildest part: this wine is just beginning to unfurl, clearly there’s more to come for the patient among us. 13.5% alc.

La Roncaia Eclisse 2021 Venezia Giulia IGT - $40/bottle MSRP
Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, 92-points James Suckling
An exotic blend of barrel-fermented Sauvignon and Picolit (which is why it's IGT-appellated), the nose is supernova with cut grass, lime zest, wild flowers, and peach haloed by almond slivers underpinned by papaya base notes. The palate is just incredible folks; medium+ acidity and vibrant activity make for a mouthwatering experience of marzipan, zippy citrus, and chestnuts - beautiful complexity for a white. The finish is clean, dry, and delicately laced with wild flowers and further almond notes unfolding in layers and layers. This wine has incredible energy and tension and is far more dynamic than just about any Sauvignon out there; truly special white bottle, hence my forgetting to take a single note the first time around. Like I said, this is a drop-the-mic wine. 13% alc.

La Roncaia Ribolla Gialla 2021 Friuli Colli Orientali DOC - $32/bottle MSRP Not scored yet but 2019 and 2020 both awarded 91-points James Suckling
An elegant bouquet of spring flowers, baked apple, and beeswax backed by fresh-picked lemon thyme with additional citrus notes. Bright, beaming acidity immediately explodes on the palate bringing the elegant bouquet into full-bloom culminating in wet river stones as the chalky acidity unfurls towards the finish. The release has a crystalline length with wonderful resonant fruit, white floral umami, and resonant thyme folding back over themselves as an evolving spice note comes to the fore - indicating more to unpack. 13.5% alc.

All four wines are 100% estate produced.
Eclisse and Pinot Grigio are barrel-fermented with 30% new French oak
Ribolla Gialla and Friulano are fermented and aged in stainless steel with 6-months on the lees before bottling.
All wines are 13-13.5% alc.
50 cases of each imported
