Sourced from an estate producer located on the "Atlas Bench" alluvial fan dropping down off of Atlas Peak in the cooler southern climes of Napa Valley. These gravelly, well-drained soils produce wines of excellent concentration and intensity. Today's release is a wonderful Chardonnay, beautifully-crafted and refined with a terrific verve. Produced in a combination of new French oak barrels an concrete eggs (renowned for their uncanny ability to produce intense yet even fruit extraction), the resulting wine combines a rich, creamy mouthfeel but gorgeous, elegant aromatic expression. Stylistically, this wine is right up the middle, creamy, elegant and sophisticated but not overtly buttery. Exquisite comes to mind. Mid-$40's out of the tasting room, a steal at $11/bottle, $132/case.
Pale, medium straw. The nose is fantastic, redolent with lemon blossom, vanilla, fresh-cut pineapple and citrus notes haloed with a lovely vetiver perfume. Fantastic on entry, round and full-bodied but super-supple. Beautifully balanced with perfectly-ripe, chalky pineapple, mandarin and honeydew melon accented with baked baguette and vetiver notes that echo through a long, elegant finish. Pristine fruit is perfectly integrated with wood and mouthwatering acidity. Shazam!
