Crafted by a master from an incredible Petaluma Gap estate vineyard planted, Lot 214 is a first-class, no-expense-spared effort.
Small, open-top fermenters, whole cluster, co-fermented clones, native yeast fermentations, and 60% new French oak all conspire to create a beautifully rich and absolutely gorgeous Pinot Noir.
A cuvee of Pommard and Dijon clones, it has at the same time a luscious, supple texture but tremendous depth, structure and complexity. This wine will have broad appeal to Pinot lovers for its true character, but will be embraced by Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah fans as well for its supple texture, richness and depth.
Amuse Bouche par excellence.
While past vintages (2018 and 2019) of this cuvee score a consistent 92-94 points from Wine Advocate and The Wine Enthusiast and sell for just south of $70/bottle at the winery, you can enjoy the 2020 Petaluma Gap Pinot for just $22/bottle. The vineyard, the clones, the winemaker, and the oak is all the same. This fantastic wine will drink well in its youth and age beautifully over the next 5-7 years.
Medium-to-deep ruby in the glass, this is fairly dark Pinot. Lush berry fruit is complexed with a lovely
sous bois earthiness in the bouquet. A romas of dried rose petals, candied ginger, and hot cinnamon are layered with pretty cola, strawberry, and aromatic cedar notes. WOW complexity. Rich and muscular yet elegant on entry, this Pinot presents layers of texture and extract replete with strawberry and raspberry fruit nicely attenuated over a supple tannin structure lifting with an Asian spice minerality in a long, unctuous finish. Fresh throughout with perfectly integrated ripeness, this Pinot Noir will thrill your palate for years to come. 100% Pinot Noir, 100% estate fruit from Petaluma Gap Blend of Pommard and Dijon clones (828, 667, 777) 60% new French oak (Taransaud, Freres, Damy, Latour; i.e. the best) 14.4% alc. 500 cases available Bottled July 30th, 2021
