***BOTTLED AUGUST 2ND, 2021***SHIPS LATE OCTOBER - NO NEED TO PURCHASE SUMMER HOLD
Looking for a delicious drink-now Cabernet Sauvignon that hugely over-delivers? Look no further, Lot 244 2018 Dry Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic, right-up-the-middle expression of Dry Creek terroir that will drink wonderfully now and age nicely over the next decade.
Like so many small lots that come our way, this is sourced from a small, tasting-room and mailing-list-only boutique winery who's family ownership has been growing grapes and producing wine in Dry Creek since the 60's. Looking to trim their inventories after being shut down for a year, they offered up this wine as a final blend - all we've done is bottle it up and offer it to you at the ridiculous price of $14/bottle ($15/bottle in 6-pack format).
The winery charges $40 which is actually quite reasonable for a wine that perennially scores in the low 90's from the Enthusiast and Wine Spectator - one of the perks of having owned your property for 50+ years.
Classic Dry Creek, Lot 244 reminds me of the old school Cabernet's from the 80's when I was just cutting my teeth in the wine business. Bone dry and well-structured but also remarkably supple, fruit-forward and approachable, it benefits from the winemakers habit of assembling the blend the summer after harvest and aging the final blend together for another 20-months in barrel. Open-knit and seamless, it will be a wonderful accompaniment to your dinner table.
Dark in the glass but quite aromatic with black cherry, sweet white flowers, sage and pencil shavings right out of the bottle adding red rock, licorice, and vanilla as it opens up. Soft and supple on entry but quite complex and very approachable with almost imperceptible tannins carrying plump, juicy black and red fruits. The integration here from extended barrel-aging makes you wonder why more producers don't age longer in barrel. Oh, that's right, cash flow :-).
