Bottled back in February and coming around nicely in the bottle, Lot 141 is a no-expense spared, built-to-the-nine's Cabernet Sauvignon designed to showcase the best of the Horse Heaven Hills appellation.
I'll cut right to the chase here: The 2016 and 2017 versions of this wine scored 94- and 92-points respectively with Jeb Dunnuck and a $65/bottle price tag. 2018 is considered a superior vintage so I think its safe to conclude N.141 would fall somewhere in between, if not outpace, those scores. We purchased the finished blend and bottled it as-is.
It is an incredible offer at $18/bottle.
N.141 2018 HHH Cabernet will age another 10-15 years easily and I recommend a solid decant in the meantime. Tightly wound, brooding and muscular out of the gate, with air this wine becomes very expressive and, eventually, what you'll find is a sophisticated, deftly-made Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers tremendous complexity at a ridiculous price. Perfectly-ripe and exceptionally-well-balanced at 14.3% alc., N.141 will have broad appeal to Napa Valley Cabernet and Bordeaux-lovers alike. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
Deep purple in the glass. Tightly wound, deep and concentrated at first but soon opens up to reveal pretty cassis, dusty dark fruit, graphite, cedar, and crushed red rock notes. Pretty violet florals halo while caramel and toffee notes underpin the bouquet. Broad, generous and muscular on entry but surprisingly elegant as well featuring big-grained tannins stained with cassis and black fruit that resolve into a prettier cherry and red rock spectrum as the wine echoes through a long, sustained finish. Terrific tension and lift throughout.
