Lot 537 comes from a single vineyard carved into a hillside, sourced from a pioneer with ties to the Russian River Valley whose Burgundian-inspired vision for New World Pinot Noir led them to be among the first to plant this varietal. A wine that’s youthful and reminiscent of Beaujolais (but lighter than Gamay, true to Pinot form), it exhibits plenty of freshness and coastal terroir, and is a local darling that’s caught even the attention of some of the toughest critics.

Pouring a luminous ruby hue in the glass, the nose offers a wonderfully focused and concentrated bouquet of delineated cranberries, strawberries, and dried leaves, with secondary notes of rose hips and hibiscus. The palate entry is terroir-driven, beginning with vibrant red fruit, a touch of uplifted spice, ocean-influenced salinity, and savory earth tones, all framed by medium+ acidity and small, velvety tannins. Elegant on the finish with impressive length, vanilla and red fruit take the forefront while a rippling minerality reveals itself, beckoning another sip.

Big (Pleasant) Surprise

"Initially bought a half case of this hard-to-find wine, largely out of curiosity. Let it settle for a few weeks, then when I finally opened a bottle, I was knocked out by the contents: wonderful on the nose, intense yet medium-bodied and balanced in the mouth. The next day I went back and bought a case."

Very enjoyable!

"Lot 537 shows the bright, coastal side of Marin Pinot. Fresh red cherry and cranberry lead the nose, backed by subtle forest-floor and spice notes. The palate is light-to-medium bodied with clean acidity and a smooth, elegant texture. Tannins are gentle and well-integrated, giving the wine a lifted, refreshing finish. A graceful, cool-climate Pinot that drinks well now and should gain complexity with a bit more bottle time."
