Lot 541 is a rare 100% Petit Verdot from a local producer specializing in high-end, single-vineyard wines. Their approach to this tricky varietal involves crafting it with a precision most wineries typically save for their flagship programs, which allowed the grape’s robustness and natural fruit profile to shine. It's a beautifully structured wine that oozes finesse and nuance.

Pouring a beautiful ruby hue, this Petit Verdot defies expectation with its poised restraint and lifted aromatics. On the nose, violet and lilac florals are layered over dark cherries, plums, and a halo of fresh sage and blue fruit. A remarkably elegant palate opens with plum and black cherry, accented by white pepper, fresh-turned earth, and new leather. Medium acidity provides lift, while fine-grained fresh tannins stretch across the palate with near endless length. A beautiful barrel-focused character reveals itself on the finish, followed by resonant fruit tones and vanilla blossoms that linger long after the last sip.

Something Different

"Give this one a try if you’re enjoying some of the non-traditional grapes on their own. Petite Verdot gets used mostly in blends so you don’t see many wineries that produce it. When I do run into one from a label I’m familiar with I’ll usually grab a bottle and I’m glad I did with this one."

It's good now, but -

"I like to try young wines to get a sense of their potential. This PV is has lighter body than many, with tannins and spice that show promise. I won't revisit it again until next year."

Very Good

"We really enjoy Petit Verdot and this is an excellent example. I suspect more time will make it even better."

Petit Verdot

"Beautiful dark color, very nice legs, love the deep punt bottle, enjoy the taste as it has a bit of a bite, this is an excellent wine and a great value. Have tasted the other petit Verdot, a tad more expensive, and we like this version better. Have also tried the Malbec which is a great choice. Have not been disappointed by any of our several de Negose choices and we drink red wine seven daze a week in our house so we know a good wine when we taste one!"

Just ok

"It’s ok. Give it some time to breath. It’s not amazing but it’ll do for an easy glass of wine."

Light, delicious red

"Nice, lighter red that is a crowd-pleaser with friends."

Buy it Again

"I had never had this wine varietal and found it delicious. Deep red and juicy, I would buy it again. And the bouquet was wonderful!"

Enjoyable alternative

"Lots of flavor upfront, then across the mid-palate. Light on tannin backbone. Wonderfully quaffable after a bit of opening up after the first glass."

Lot 541 Petit Verdot

"So happy this Petit Verdot was not destined to be a blender for a cab. A beautiful expression of a heritage Bordeaux grape being allowed to express itself."

This one is better . . .

". . . Petit Verdot is tough to find as a varietal, so when I saw this one, I jumped at it. Didn't impress me at first, but each subsequent pouring started showing its true colors. This is a smooth wine that mates up well with steak and, guess what, with pizza too! This one, I will say, is worth the money."
