Lot 586
2024 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
750ml$70/bottle under the original label
Lot 586 is a 93-point James Suckling scored (under our label) single-vineyard star from some of the valley’s oldest rows. Old Pinot vines deliver structure without heaviness, and phenolic depth that’s already integrated – character that younger vines simply can’t replicate. Deeper root systems also produce smaller berries with lower water content, directly translating to density of flavor. All of this is on clear display in a Burgundian-styled, beautifully concentrated Pinot normally restricted to allocations and ritzy restaurant lists.
Expertly delineated on the nose, deeply set cranberries and cherry reduction bathed in forest floor rise from the glass, layered with rose petal, dragon fruit, and a light gunflint accent. On entry, red fruit acidity and a pronounced thread of volcanic minerality combine with ultra-fine velvety tannins that frame notes of cola, tobacco leaf, and wild strawberry. The finish is strikingly clean and elegant, trailing with a delicate spice, light vanillin, and echoes of red berries. Approachable in the near term with a decade of upside. When sommeliers speak of the classic “pigs & Pinot” pairings, this is precisely the profile they have in mind – break out the pork chops (or bacon)!
