Lot 552 is a 93-point James Suckling scored (under our label) 100% single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from a Napa stalwart who specializes in vineyard-designate bottlings. While it’s a tall order to live up to a term like “virtuosic craftsmanship,” it’s entirely appropriate here – the winemaker’s deft touch and sense of restraint let the world-class fruit showcase its full potential. The result is nothing short of magical: a wine of remarkable grace that’s as pure an expression of terroir as you’ll find anywhere in the valley.

Pouring a deep ruby into the glass, the nose is vivid with blackberries and graphite, followed by layers of dried herbs, new soft leather, and currants. The entry is impeccably structured and perfectly balanced, where blackcurrant and plum interplay with savory notes of tobacco and leather, uplifted by barrel spice and medium acidity. Plentiful, medium-grained tannins are beautifully integrated throughout, and a dry finish unfolds with dark fruits giving way to spiced vanilla blossoms and crushed violets that linger gracefully across a long, resonant close.

Silky, balanced with great depth!

"Silky, balanced, and beautifully expressive of Oak Knoll. Blueberry, plum, and subtle baking spice lead into a medium-plus body with smooth, velvety tannins. The wine has a round, polished feel, with a touch of graphite and cocoa on the finish. A refined Cabernet that shows both elegance and depth — one of the more approachable Napa lots in this lineup."

Really good Cabernet

"Oak knoll is a great area for Cab. This one holds up to its reputation. Bold and smooth with balanced tannin. Highly recommend."

Christine (5/5)

Give it some time

"Not a big chewy red, but some interesting flavor hints that will develop more with more time in the bottle. Worth a re-visit down the road."

Great representation of Oak Knoll

"Extremely bold and delicious upon first taste and rewarding finish!"

Good now, maybe better later

"I expected a little more from this wine but still enjoyed it. I might have rated it higher had I decanted it. I bought 3 bottles and will be sitting on the other two for another year or two."

Great Cab

"Delicious"

Needs a lot of time; good quality.

"The fruit here was very high quality, with deft sweetness, a hint of dryness and very luxurious on the palate. That said, this is really so young that it's quite limited in what it can show now. An extra few years will make a big difference. I decanted this for about four hours, which helped but only so much. 93+ pts - more for potential."

Rich & Bold

"A rich & bold flavor, with age it could be even better!"

552 | 2023 Oak Knoll Cab

"Lovely, juicy Cab. Wasn’t the big powerful Cab with a dry finish. But sure was tasty and the family enjoyed it."
