Description

Éleveur | 2020 Pommard 1er Cru Les Pézerolles Rouge is an exquisitely hand-crafted 100% single-vineyard stunner. A spectacular Pinot from the northern end of the village, it boasts the appellation’s signature intensity but also showcases an elegance reminiscent of Volnay – a testament to the intricacy of terroir and how the slightest change in aspect, soil composition, or elevation can make all the difference. Our source has done this world-class dirt plenty of justice, and the wine recently scored 90 points from James Suckling under our label. As with many of our French shiner offerings, we’ve got the US exclusive. A quick web search shows that other wines from Les Pézerolles of comparable pedigree typically land around $150/bottle (with some breaking the $200 mark), but you know we can negotiate something much better for you – today, this Premier Cru gem is available for OVER 60% OFF!

Opening with a striking mineral clarity, the nose is lifted and ethereal, with graceful florals and delicate cherries amidst rain-soaked crushed stones, all hovering around a black cherry core. Beneath the elegant perfume lies serious intent – the palate delivers a powerful burst of black fruits layered with mushrooms and fresh-turned soils, framed by excellent acidity and ripe tannins. The finish is strong, with terroir-driven earth tones and resonant red-to-black berries kissed by rose petals, shifting to barrel-kissed vanilla bean and lifted by a delicate spice on the exit.

Attention Burgundy collectors: we’ve secured another upper-echelon stunner from one of the most celebrated vintages of the past few decades!

As you recall, Pommard is one of the Côte de Beaune’s most revered villages, renowned for producing reds with power and intensity. It’s also one of the better values in top-tier Burgundy (relatively speaking – we’re still talking about some of the most expensive wines in Europe), because while modern critics broadly agree on the exceptional quality of its best vineyards, the local politics of the 1930s didn’t see fit to award Grand Cru classification to any of them. That oversight still affects pricing today, with many top bottlings regularly described as “Grand Cru in all but name.” For the savvy wine buyer, that means Pommard offers perhaps the most bang for your buck in Burgundy.

Ideally located at mid-slope, Les Pézerolles possesses very well-draining brown limestone soils. The site faces southeast, allowing the vines to soak up ample afternoon sunshine to fully ripen grapes. The 2020 vintage was exceptional, and its warm, dry growing season resulted in one of the earliest harvests on record. After hand-picking at peak maturity, our source destemmed most of the fruit, leaving some whole cluster to elevate the wine’s structure and balance. Following fermentation, the wine settled into 40% new French oak barrels for 16 months.
