$250/bottle under the original label
Double Gold Medal Winner San Francisco International Wine Competition
Selling for $250 out of the tasting room and now just $69/bottle , this magnificent Howell Mountain Flagship Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is surely my greatest score from the 2019 vintage (and likely 2018 too, particularly if you prefer the warm, sexy voluptuousness and forward approachability of 2019).
Located in the rolling-hills heart of the Howell Mountain plateau at over 2000-feet of elevation, seated in iron-rich red volcanic soils mixed with layers of volcanic ash and surrounded by Dunn, Outpost, and Adamus, this is some of the best soil for Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley, or anywhere else for that matter.
100% Estate, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Lot 300 exemplifies the big, extracted flavors of Howell Mountain fruit in a balanced, voluptuously elegant package that beautifully and powerfully expresses the rocky soils and warm climate of this hallowed region.
And, while this is the most expensive "bulk" lot I have ever purchased and the most expensive "future" we have ever offered at $69/bottle, it is all with good reason: the wine is well worth it.
Trust me.
Opaque in the glass but not over-extracted. The bouquet is gorgeous, fantastically fresh and redolent with sage and violets, cassis, blackberry, blackcurrant and red rock surrounded by well-integrated, toasty french oak. Everything is beautifully delineated, perfectly ripe and elegantly complex - ebullient but never over the top jammy. On the palate, robust and juicy on entry with plush, chewy tannins perfectly balanced with succulent, ripe black and red fruits riding a tufa-driven minerality carrying this wine to an incredible finish that echoes on your palate for a good minute+. Polished, ethereal and punchy with tremendous verve throughout, this is a wonderful expression of Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.
