$125/bottle under the original label
For those of you unfamiliar with Moon Mountain, it's one of Sonoma's newest AVAs, carved out of the Valley of the Moon AVA, where it stretches over some of the highest elevation vineyards sites on the North Coast. The new AVA houses many notable - even legendary - vineyards, and is one of the great, secret hot spots for Cabernet in Sonoma County.
Lot 357 is built to the nines. A mix of open-top fermenters and 1/2-ton bin fermenters, hand punch-downs, high-end consulting winemaker, 60% new French oak of top quality cooperage, and an 800-foot elevation hillside vineyard site on Moon Mountain (located southeast of Monte Rosso and Kamen Estate in the basaltic lava flows) - its all here folks.
Originally slated for a $125/bottle program, this is over 70% OFF at $36/bottle.
Black cherry, pepper, leather, mountain sage, and gobs of cedary oak are all accented by toffee undertones on the nose. The entry has fantastic structure with rich, palate-staining sappy fruit and potent, but well-integrated big grained tannins that open up to beautiful, soaring red fruit and delineated red rock minerality with mineral-laced acidity. The finish resonates with red and black fruit in what can only be described as endless length. Still swaddled in baby fat as one would imagine from a fantastic vintage like 2021, but it's obvious this wine is going to be spectacular.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 100% Moon Mountain single-vineyard
60% new French oak, Radoux, Francois Freres, etc.
