Lot 364 | 2019 "Vineyard Z" Russian River Valley Zinfandel 750ml

Lot 364
2019 "Vineyard Z" Russian River Valley Zinfandel

Remarkable for a 2019 Zinfandel, this wine pours deep, dark and brooding with hints of chocolate, blackberry syrup, raspberry and wood resin eeking out of the void. With time, the fruit becomes more pronounced with the cherry, blackberry and cinnamon spice coming to the fore. Dense and tightly wound on entry with red and black fruits arrayed over a powerful layer of minerally tannins that lead to a long, if tightly wound, finish that echoes for some time. Clearly lots more to come here once this cracks open in the bottle.

A Summer Delight Zinfandel

"What a delightful surprise to find this light bodied Zinfandel which has a wonderful bouquet. This wine will stand on its own for an afternoon cocktail or accompanying a dinner."

Fruity, but a bit edgy

"We enjoyed this Zin, but even after a year in my cellar it was still a little bit edgy. Maybe that's by design? Decanted for an hour or so. Fruity, tart with raspberry and a dry finish that bordered on bitter. We're not connoisseurs but we know what we like and we like this for a zinfandel."

Tasty, lighter side of Zin

"Definitely no OVZ, pouring like a heavy PN or a light merlot. Red fruit forward but with plenty of acidity, would likely be even more enjoyable with a few more years in the bottle."

Interesting expression of Zin

"This is probably a 4+. On the light and acidic side for a Zin. I enjoyed it."

Right Up My Zin Alley

"On my palate this Zin is more medium weight and lends to a subtle spice and fine tannin finish as opposed to a big fruit bomb. l prefer Zins with this structure. And it has been quite some time since I’ve come across a Zin at this price point that delivered. If it had punch the tongue peppery spice with a bit more weight, I’d give it 5 stars. I wonder if this review can be updated in a few months after another tasting."
