Lot 415 | 2022 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 750ml

Under its original label previous vintages scored in the mid-to-high 90s from Wine Enthusiast, Wine & Spirits, and Wine Spectator. As many of you know, single-vineyard expressions and meticulous grape-growing finessed by elite winemaking fetch a pretty penny; out of the source winery this allocation-only wine goes for a relatively reasonable $80/bottle, $960/case.

How about a no-expense-spared, incredible 2022 single-vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir today?

This year's haul has the winery clearing out barrel space - seems to be the story of late, continuing the host of exceptional single-vineyard designate deals we've been offering. Per usual, they called us and we agreed to remove the vineyard name and declassify the wine to the Sonoma Coast AVA to protect their allocation model on this juice. Our source bottles the exact same wine under the sub-appellation with the vineyard name emblazoned across the label. These tiny, print-based adjustments net this list a savings of OVER 75% OFF.

Our offer: $18/bottle.

Lot 415 is a 100% single-vineyard source Pinot Noir; a combination of Pommard with Dijon Clones 667 and 777. A moderate climate and consistent winds make for an extended growing season, allowing the berries to reach optimal phenolic ripeness and develop thicker skins, resulting in a wine of deeper structure. Seeing 12 months in barrel with 40% new wood, this wine was crafted by a highly-decorated winemaker with stints at the who's who of the Sonoma Coast that's also well versed in high-scoring productions from highly-sought-after, highly-allocated Napa mountain fruit. Blue chip winemaking in tandem one of the best sites in the entire Sonoma Coast, and a barrel program to match for less than $13/bottle? It's good to be on this list.

Opening with cranberry, dried herbs and clove dominating the nose, secondary tones of mushrooms, wild blueberries, and rose petals come up with a bit of air. The entry further reinforces the cranberry note with supple yet complex black cherry, dragon fruit, cocoa nibs, and mushrooms supporting deftly interwoven acidity and infinitesimally small, velvet-textured tannins. The finish has good length and is uplifted with barrel spice and vanilla blossoms shifting to cherry and pomegranate.
