Lot 420 | 2021 Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

Lot 420
2021 Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

$80/bottle under the original label

Lot 420 comes to us from an established winery in the Napa benchlands. On the streets this stuff goes for $80/bottle, and it’s the main component used in the winery’s $130/bottle Napa Valley blend. But we know a guy who knows a guy, so basically, we got an IN and we’re offering it to you today, out of our own personal stash.

Pouring deep ruby with an almost impenetrable core, the nose is equally dark with concentrated black fruit, dark chocolate, black tea, and earthy tones haloed by barrel spices and a dried herb bouquet. The palate is open knit and more Old World in style with dark fruit, clay pot, and new leather framed by plentiful uniform, well integrated tannins bolstered by medium acidity and uplifted spice. The finish is long and dry with resonant vanilla and further dark fruits. While drinkable in the near term with a healthy decant, your patience will be rewarded for a few years in cellar. This is upper-echelon, high-altitude juice folks, grab it before it's too late...

Delicious

"Lovely blackberry, currant and a nice spicy note. Still moderately tight, with slightly hollow middle, and a long drying finish. Time will only improve it."

Great mountain cab

"Young, but All signs point to a really good mountain cab - deep dark fruit, full body, nice tannic profile - brooding on the fruit right now but expect it will open up in a couple years - no rush on these. Hold."

Tough wine to enjoy early

"Very dark on opening with ethereal aromas. I was thinking it's going to be a big, luscious fruit bomb. Instead I got a well balanced, steely, medium bodied puzzle of a wine which did not open up much even on the second day with lots of air. It reminded me of a bordeaux opened much too early. No major flaws but this wine was too stiff to enjoy now. I'll try again in 6 months."

89 points - solid value

"good value. needs to breath or the tannins are too strong. fruit flavor starting to come through. I would let sit for a year before opening. has potential to be a very nice wine."

Lots of locked potential

"I opened this wine a few weeks ago and it was clear from teh begining that this is a Gem that requires a few more years of aging. The drinking experience was excellent once the wine opened up but I think a few more years will make this wine magical"

Lyron B. (5/5)

Good and with great potential

"The mountain fruit on this one are showing potential to be great in a couple years - the fruit is brooding and deep like the 2018s were before some age."

Mt. Veeder Lot 420

"A superb Napa Cabernet at a young 3 years old. Should only get better over time. Have enjoyed many great Mt. Veeder cabs. Lot 420 ranks with one of the best. de Négoce price point was obscenely low. What a deal!!!"

Mountain Cab: Keep in the Cellar for Now

"Lot 420 is a beautifully structured, super tight-wound Cab that would be best left to accumulate some age in the cellar to be really, really rewarded!! One for the patient among us."
