Lot 432 | 2021 Moon Mountain Merlot 750ml

Lot 432
2021 Moon Mountain Merlot

When you have fruit this good, you don’t mess with it. This winery takes pride in hand-crafted, low-intervention winemaking. Clusters are hand-picked at night and fermented with native yeasts. The fruit from each vineyard block is kept separate during fermentation to preserve terroir, then blended later for optimal regional expression. The juice is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months in a gentle 25% new wood regimen.

This 100% Moon Mountain Merlot opens with huckleberry, plum, vanilla, new leather and bay leaf; the nose is haloed by violets and fig. The entry is refined with black cherries, baking spices, chocolate, and potting soil all brushed with a discernibly dusty quality. The acidity is balanced, the tannins fine-grained and grippy; perfectly integrated, leading into a dry barrel-kissed finish that’s slow to reveal dried herbs, fig, and currants in a drawn out, elegant exposé.

2021 Moon Mountain Merlot

"Wine was very good after opening a first bottle. However, I believe it will be even better after laying down for a year or two. At the price I paid, a very good value."

Moon Mountain Merlot

"Deep rich taste, needs some more time in the bottle but very happy so far!"

Excellent taste. I am generally

"Excellent taste. I am generally not a merlot drinker. But this Lot changed my perception on those grapes."

One of my favorite Negoce bottles yet!

"I enjoy trying all of the new featured bottles Negoce has to offer and luckily scored a case of this on a flash sale. This was a crowd favorite and frankly did not last long on the wine rack!"

Merlot is still king

"It is always a pleasure to find a well crafted merlot. Albeit this wine is still a little young, enjoying it now is a simple matter of decanting the morning of. Nice and fresh in the glass the high altitude growing allows full ripijnging of fruit and expression of this noble grape. Full bodied and rich plum and vanillin from the oak frame a well structured wine of substance. Fine grain tannins are evident upon the first sip with classic plum, mouth-watering acidity, and brims with concentrated notes of pomegranate, bumbleberry and hints of violet on the nose. A wine to be sipped and enjoyed for another 4 years."

Smooth sailing

"This Merlot reminds me of the vintages from 1996, 2005 and 2009. Deep masculine Merlot with a feminine touch, I can taste the berries, a little plum but great body which lends to mocha and cherry notes. I purchased a case and will cellar 4 bottles for at least 3 years and will update the review then. I will not hesitate to repurchase in the future. It reminded me of the old moon mountain reserved Merlot wines, Stryker Vineyards Merlot."

Luscious

"I am a Merlot fan and especially enjoy Sonoma wines. This is a very nice example. It has great mouthfeel, good fruit, and nice tannins. There is that underlying herbal quality but it's not so pronounced that it would be annoying. I'll be getting a case soon since I only got a six pack to try it out. Will probably let it lay for the next couple of years though it's drinking nicely now. I think another two or three years and it will be a really nice bottle. Cheers!"

Moonstruck Merlot

"Fruity, great nose. Smooth succulent mouthfeel with light tannic structure. Medium to long finish.Higher altitude made richer more fruit forward. Nice value."

Michael H. (4/5)

Excellent Merlot

"This Merlot is very deep and dark and lingers for a long while. I would even pair it with a filet. We like bolder Merlots and this one really fits the bill!"

Brian N. (5/5)

Juicy red fruit beauty

"A burst of ripe dark red fruit on entry transitions to floral and herbal notes. Plenty of tannins for a merlot, but balanced acidity. Nice long finish with over ripe berry notes."
