Gotta love harvest time: the need to make room for the incoming 2023 fruit allowed us to strike a deal for a small allotment of this absolutely beautiful, hard to acquire, and now QPR-focused Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc.
Lot 436 is a marriage of two premier vineyards from the same producer as the single-block Lot 413. 75% of the fruit comes from the same Stags Leap District vineyard blended with 25% Musque clone fruit from a Rutherford single site. Both sources boast long growing seasons, creating fruit with great acid and wonderful structure. Produced in 100% stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit’s character and inoculated with 100% native yeasts, then briefly rested sur lie for a touch of rounding, the end result is a beautifully tropical Sauvignon Blanc with gobs of structure for a white that only Napa Valley can produce.
Opening with an absolutely beautiful nose of lychee, gooseberry, mango and green apples kissed by Meyer lemon, lime zest, and wet river stones. Pear and grapefruit are bright on entry with citrus blossoms brushed by spice and framed by perfectly balanced acidity. The finish is clean, dry, and uplifted with further Meyer lemon and lime zest. Another excellent, food friendly wine for the Spring and Summer of ’24 that'll moonlight as a great solo sipper.
