Lot 452 | 2023 Sonoma County Chardonnay 750ml

Lot 452
2023 Sonoma County Chardonnay

750ml

$45/bottle under the original label

Lot 452 comes to us from a Russian River Valley producer known for minimal intervention and showcasing the essence of bright, crisp, cool climate Chardonnay. Purposely crafted with no malolactic fermentation, this style of winemaking retains the grape’s natural freshness and allows the Chardonnay fruit to shine through.

An array of aromatics emerge from the glass – Asian pear and vanilla blossoms intermingle with the fresh scent of yellow apple, followed by hints of melon. The entry is vibrant and uplifted, with a dry laser beam of acidity slicing through apples and pears that’s softened by a bit of sur lie aging. As the wine evolves, it crescendos to a finish of white blossoms and zesty lemon curd that settles into a delicate, ethereal vanilla bean that persists on the palate long after the last sip. A very drinkable, nay, quaffable Chard for your imbibing pleasure.

Love this chard

"This chard is definitely my preferred style: crisp citrus, minerality, low oak & reasonable alcohol, delicious flavor profile that keeps me coming back for another sip."

Very "correct" for Sonoma

"This wine pours to a medium straw color. On the nose and on the palate, this one has kiwi and mango, Meyer lemon and a hint of tropical raciness. Middle and finish is quite typical for your well made Sonoma Chardonnay with some limestone grit and a moderate dose of white pepper. This has a pressboard cork in it so you can keep it 5 years. I think it could definitely withstand the hold and will definitely appreciate over time. But, this is priced so well that you can use this as a daily drinker and it would be perfect. Well done!"

Crisp and classic

"This is an absolutely lovely expression of a non-interventionist approach to a Russian River Chard in a Chabli-esque style. Apple and pear on the nose give way to firm backbone of acidity and wet stone minerality. This is not your mother’s Chard, but a cool and finely crafted expression of what California Chardonnay can and should be. For the price, this cannot be beat."

Lot 452 SONOMA CTY CHARD

"A good summer wine. Lots of high toned fruits on the nose with imperceptible oak. Lots of acidity on the palate with green apple flavors. Not a terribly lengthy finish with only marginal vanilla or cream brûlée flavors consistent with low use of new oak."
