Renowned for its cool climates that lock in natural fruit acidity and elegant, balanced flavors, the Russian River Valley is at this point a household name for fans of west coast Chardonnay. The morning fog that blankets the valley moderates the temperatures throughout the growing season, preventing excessive heat accumulation, allowing for steady gradual ripening and optimal flavor. Similarly, the cool foggy maritime influence of the San Pablo Bay and the Pacific Ocean make Carneros an ideal region for growing Chardonnay grapes with a vibrant quality and pure flavors.

The grapes for Lot 452 were harvested from southwestern hillside vineyards in both regions at the cool hours of the early morning to preserve their freshness. Whole cluster pressed and fermented 40/60 in barrel/stainless steel (again, with no malolactic fermentation), the result is focused and expressive – bright and crisp, yet softened on the edges thanks to the barrel influence. Our source's winemakers skillfully blended in 20% Carneros Chardonnay to infuse additional melon qualities to the classic apple/pear/lemon characteristics from the Russian River grapes, creating an elixir whose whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts.

An array of aromatics emerge from the glass – Asian pear and vanilla blossoms intermingle with the fresh scent of yellow apple, followed by hints of melon. The entry is vibrant and uplifted, with a dry laser beam of acidity slicing through apples and pears that’s softened by a bit of sur lie aging. As the wine evolves, it crescendos to a finish of white blossoms and zesty lemon curd that settles into a delicate, ethereal vanilla bean that persists on the palate long after the last sip. A very drinkable, nay, quaffable Chard for your imbibing pleasure.
