Russian River Valley Zins are a rarity for us – relatively small acreage (compared to Pinot and Chard) keeps supply limited, and the wines are often gobbled up by fervent local and club followings. That challenge makes our triumph that much sweeter: this is only the fourth RRV Zinfandel in the history of this program. Lot 494 is a stunning 100% single-vineyard old-vine Zinfandel made in a traditional style that comes to us from a historic Sonoma house.

On the nose, aromas of raspberry and dark fruit reduction are haloed by cinnamon and clove with subtle undertones of cigar box. On the palate, an interplay of red and blue fruits unfolds across a dry presentation of baking spice, new soft leather, and oak spice, moving to smooth and velvety tannins. The finish is impressively long and wonderfully dry for a Zin, resonating with fresh berries, vanilla, and herbs.
