***BOTTLING MID-OCTOBER, SHIPPING SHORTLY AFTER***
During our recent Dry Creek Valley expedition, Zinfandel wasn’t the only item on our radar. We were keen to procure a batch of the AVA’s signature white grape – Sauvignon Blanc. Our inaugural find last year sold like hotcakes and received loads of glowing reviews in our Bottle Shop, so we knew the appetite was there and the bar was set high. Fortunately, we struck pay dirt a few miles down the road – another local legend was open to moving some of their flagship white, and a few offers and counter offers later, we secured our second ever Dry Creek Sauv Blanc! Today, one of the top white bottlings in the entire region can be had for over 60% OFF.
We're quite happy with our score, especially since this is a wine whose price has been creeping upwards over the past few years, which reflects a general trend: a recently released mid-year report shows that since 2018, average bottle prices in this channel have increased a whopping 38%. As always, we’re here to be your inflation buster, and remain committed as ever to securing beacons of value in a pricey ocean of wine.
Lot 567 is a single-vineyard, estate-grown 100% Sauvignon Blanc from a pioneering Dry Creek producer. Crafted to showcase varietal purity and terroir, it’s fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel, producing a complex bouquet of aromas, tropical fruit flavors, racy acidity, and flashes of minerality – everything you want in a top shelf Sauvignon Blanc. To protect our source (especially given the small, tight-knit Dry Creek community), deal terms require us to keep mum about its exact price. We can disclose this highly awarded flagship white has historically hovered around the $50 mark, but for the savvy buyers on this list, it’s well under $20/bottle!
$109/6-pack, $18+/bottle.
Nestled at the valley floor, our source's pristine estate vineyard enjoys a cool microclimate compared to the surrounding area, allowing Sauvignon Blanc to retain its natural vibrant acidity. Morning fog gives way to warm, sunny afternoons, which this Bordelaise varietal needs to ripen fully. Well-draining, gravelly, and sandy soils force roots deep for moisture, limiting yields and producing grapes of impeccable quality. The grapes were hand-picked, then immediately and gently whole-cluster pressed. A cool fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks before aging on fine lees (also in stainless steel), resulting in what can only be described as stunning sunshine in a bottle.
Aromatically poised and expressive, an elegant, uplifted nose awakens the senses with Kaffir leaf, jasmine florals, river stones, tropical fruit, and subtle eucalyptus. The palate delivers precision and balance, showcasing tropical fruits, ginger, and florals buoyed by medium+ acidity and a tantalizing spice umami. The finish is remarkably clean, featuring citrus zest, florals, and green apple reverberate with impressive length.
