Lot 609
2024 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 12-bottle case
Lot 609 is a 100% estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon knockout. In quintessential SLD fashion, this wine is commandingly powerful yet beautifully elegant – no surprise, given the standard of excellence set by its winemakers over decades. Deal terms are so stringent on this one we can’t publish…much of anything, really, and certainly nothing near the actual source price. Let’s just give a conservative number at $150+/bottle to be safe. But what else is there to say? Rare, exquisite Stags Leap Cab that comes along a few times in a decade, from a terrific vintage, for $27/bottle, including shipping?!
A tantalizingly dark pour emerges from the bottle. The nose captures the classic tension between power and finesse, opening with a core of red-to-black fruit reduction, raspberry coulis, and fresh-picked blackcurrant before unfolding into notes of violet, eucalyptus, dried herbs, and crushed-rock minerality. The palate is layered and finely built, with currant, raspberry, and dark cherry meeting cedar, chocolate, and a subtle drop of iodine all framed by exceptional acidity and wonderfully integrated velvety tannins. The finish is one of the finest we’ve tasted all year: French oak-infused vanilla and baking spice coalesce with crushed violets, carrying the dark fruit aloft before settling back into a lingering floral close of remarkable length.
