Lot 624
2023 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 12-bottle case

Lot 624 is one of the most critically acclaimed wines in Napa Valley. The 2023 vintage of a legendary red from a legendary winery on Napa’s Mt. Rushmore, it’s obsessively produced by world-class winemakers from tip to tail without compromise in a cutting edge facility, using fruit grown in some of the most celebrated vineyards in the world and aged in the finest new French oak. An absolutely sublime Cabernet skillfully reinforced by small percentages of a Bordelaise supporting cast, it’s sold for $300+/bottle (with that plus sign doing lots of heavy lifting) under its original label, and we are over the moon to bring this to you at an utterly insane price under $25.

Cassis, clove, blackcurrant, and graphite define the nose, with support from baking spices, dark chocolate, and iris florals luring you ever deeper into the glass. The palate opens with black cherry and new leather wrapped around a concentrated core of dark fruit, blackberry, garden sage, and tobacco. Deftly balanced acidity and abundant velvety tannins provide impressive structure and depth. The finish remains youthful and goes for ages, with persistent dark fruits ushering in vanilla, barrel spice, and red berries. A healthy decant will do wonders if you can’t resist in the short term, but be sure to save a few – the sky’s the limit.

***BOTTLING LATE SEPTEMBER, SHIPPING SHORTLY AFTER***

We started this summer telling you about the unprecedented list of eye-popping names that have presented us offers this year, and today’s release is the most improbable one yet – you probably wouldn’t even believe us if we showed you the source label for this bottle.

We had to suspend our own disbelief – in our team’s decades of doing this (going back to the “before times” Lot program of the 2000s), we’ve never even heard so much as a whisper of this wine being available until this year. It was practically a ghost. Yet there it was in front of us a few months ago: two incredible vintages of one of the most iconic wines in the valley, if not the world.

We signed on the dotted line for every ounce of the 2023 being offered, and also committed to the lion’s share of the 2024 – that will follow in a few months’ time (no complaints about additional aging, right?).

What else can be said about 2023 that hasn’t already been said? The cool, extended growing season produced especially refined and structured reds with brilliant acidity and exceptional aging potential. The best vintage in a generation? Perhaps too hyperbolic, but maybe not, because all indicators point to a lot of perfect scores being awarded in the near future across the valley. The winemakers behind this bottle are certainly of that pedigree, and their handiwork is stunning.
