So it was surprising to get a call from a very respected estate on Highway 29 that began with “I heard from ____ that you fellas were fans of Syrah…” As it turns out, they’re quite friendly with the producer that recently sold us Lot 616, and when they discovered we had an appetite, they didn’t waste any time reaching out. It’s always nice when one deal leads to another, isn’t it?

Due to Syrah’s scarcity (only 1% of bearing vineyards in Napa), it’s extremely rare to acquire the top offerings at a hot price, so we were more than happy to close the deal quickly – especially since this one is objectively one of Napa’s best. The list of possible sources is so short to begin with that most vineyard and winemaking details must remain hush hush, though we can say these grapes were picked at maximum ripeness for peak concentration in an already powerful varietal. Following extended maceration and fermentation, the wine was aged in top-of-the-line French oak for nearly 20 months.
