Lot 649
2024 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 6-pack
Lot 649 is a consummate masterwork. Unlike the brawny Cabs that have come to define much of Napa’s reputation, this valley floor stunner was purpose-built with an approach that was clearly intended by the winemaker to answer the question: “What is the essence of Rutherford?” A bellwether for the region produced from estate vineyards a stone’s throw from Highway 29 and obsessively farmed to a standard befitting a name that easily belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Napa Valley, this is proper Grand Cru juice that showcases the very best of Rutherford dust and terroir. An apex Napa Valley red with this vineyard and producer name on it is a wine that hovers in the ~$200 range (and a quick search online shows some places selling way higher), so it’s with great pleasure that we present this to you for under $30/bottle!
Delightfully dusty cherries and cassis open the nose, followed by violets, fresh-picked blackberries, dried herbs, and red clay, all haloed by secondary notes of eucalyptus and chocolate. The entry exudes elegance and balance – exceptional acidity frames dark cherries, spiced raspberries, new leather, crushed rock, and baking spice with fine, plentiful dusty tannins. The finish opens with a lift of barrel spice before settling into red fruit and florals across a long, dry exit. Enchanting.
