Lot 182 comes to us from one of California's most revered producers of Chardonnay and the source for Lot 176 Russian River Pinot Noir. After we did the lot 176 deal, I specifically requested they put together a Russia River Chardonnay for me. We only received 8 barrels and, quite frankly, I paid more for it than I have many Napa Cabernet's - that's how much I like it.
This cuvee is mostly estate fruit with two barrels from their single vineyard program. Because of the small quantity produced, as well as the high price, Lot 182 Russian River Valley Chardonnay will be sold in six-packs.
Weighing in at 13.8%, this crystalline beauty is a Burgundian-styled masterpiece - about as good as it gets here in CA.
Medium-to-pale gold with just a kiss of green. Barrel-fermentation and lees stirring makes the bouquet leap from the glass, redolent with honey-soaked pear, spice and butter haloed with citrus blossoms. Energetic on the palate nervy acidity and ripe fruit with huge length, this is powerful, sexy Chardonnay with beautiful purity. Fantastic!
