Lot 221 2019 Ballard Canyon, Santa Barbara County Syrah (14.1%) - All tasting notes from recently bottled wine: beautifully perfumed and floral, dried rose and lavender, freshly cut seasoned oak, black cherry and boysenberry, evolving on the palate into vanilla bean, cedar and seasoned french oak under a black pepper halo. The meaty savory character of this Syrah is there but in the background. Pretty and elegant on the palate but the more meaty, peppery character shows through here a bit more. Complex as all get out, this will knit together extremely well.
100% Syrah, 100% single-vineyard.
Fermentation in either concrete eggs or large format puncheons, 50% new.
Barrel-ageing post-fermentation typically 30-40% new French oak.
Drink 2021 to 2031 (these will get through very light bottle shock by August)
250-300 cases of each wine produced.
