Lot 226 | 2019 Napa Valley "Hillside" Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

Lot 226 | 2019 Napa Valley "Hillside" Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

Lot 226 comes to us from the same producer as Lot 209 and it is the same style from the same vineyards.

This is purpose-built, barrel-aged Fume Blanc-style Sauvignon that spends years in barrel on its lees. The net effect is a fabulously rich and exotic Sauvignon Blanc with gorgeous aromatics and a succulent mouthfeel. However, the acidity is all there too, adding a mouthwatering component to the succulence.

This wine retails for just south of $40 and has 92-95-point scores from Decanter, Wine Spectator, Jeb Dunnock, and James Suckling.

The 2019 is, of course, a bit less evolved than the 2018 but 2019 is a riper vintage and the wine is coming around nicely in the bottle already. Pear, honeydew, vanilla bean, kumquat, and flint mingle with lifted lime blossom. Round and luscious on the palate, echoes of the French oak sur lie aging make this wine truly unique while the finish is laced with mineral flint, fresh acidity and candied grapefruit to remind us this is vibrant sauvignon blanc. Tremendous complexity here just unwrapping in the bottle...should be ready to go towards the end of July but this wine will age beautifully for another decade. At $11/bottle, its an incredible deal.
