Lot 118 | 2018 Chalk Hill Malbec 750ml

$65/bottle under the original label

Oh my. Juicy, rich, ripe, deep, dark, and delicious are just a few descriptors of this fantastic Chalk Hill Malbec...while I'm at it, I would throw in lush, intense and hedonistic too.

Produced by one of Chalk Hill's finest producers from some of the finest vineyards on Chalk Hill, this is a no expense spared, built to the nines Malbec with approximately 80% new French Oak. I paid more for this wine than I did many Napa Cabernet's actually. The wine sells for well over $60/bottle at the winery under a special reserve designation and is a stunning opportunity at $24/bottle.

Bottled back on November 13th, it will largely be through bottle shock by mid-February, 2021. In fact, its drinking nice nicely already (1/14/21) but will certainly benefit from more time in the bottle.

Inky in the glass with a beautiful nose of provencal herb, brooding black cherry, smoky oak, dark chocolate and mocha notes. Plush on entry with a juicy melange of mixed dark berry fruit and spice perfectly integrated atop a chewy tannin structure. The jammy fruit is lush and hedonistic but perfectly ripe and never over the top - always in balance. The finish is long, pure, and seamless. Drink over the next decade.
