Lot 72 | 2018 Russian River Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml (97-points)

$75/bottle under the original label

This is a gorgeous and expressive Cabernet Sauvignon. A rare varietal in the Russian River Valley, this Cabernet benefits from the same soils that make the Russian River Valley such an incredible growing region for Pinot Noir. In fact, you can argue this has to be some of the best soil in the Russian River if it can succeed with Cabernet in such a cool region. Its fully ripe at 14.6% with one of the most expressive and lively noses you'll find on the north coast. With 93+- to 97-point scores from major reviewers, you could put this in Napa Valley and triple its $65 tag (winery price).

At $28/bottle, its an incredible opportunity to own one of the prettiest Cabernet's in the state and one that will age phenomenally over the next 10-15 years. If you like energy in your Cabernet, don't miss this one - I'm not.

Deep and inky in the glass with an ultraviolet purple rim that stains the glass with iridescence. Explodes from the glass with soaring cassis and black cherry notes wrapped in sweet florals, crushed volcanic rock and red clay. With air, blueberry jam and fresh tobacco leaf join the fray. Immaculately balanced, its dances across the palate with black currant and dark chocolate haloed by tobacco notes. Fantastic!

UPDATED TASTING NOTES 6.29.21
Color is pure WOW. The aromas are beguiling with beautiful black cherry dusted with cedar, molasses, purple fruit, tobacco leaf, sauteed peppers, savory earth and soy sauce. Focused with vibrant acidity and sexy fruit beautifully framed. Fine grained tannins that coat the finish. Just starting to open up however, this is going to be fantastic.
