Lot 166 | 2018 Walla Walla Valley Meritage 750ml

Lot 166 2018 Walla Walla Meritage comes to us from the same producer partners that brought us N.131, N.147 as well as Lots 162 and 164 (for those you new to dN, we moved from the N. numbering system to using Lot numbers with Lot 150. I like the sound of it better).

As I have mentioned ad nauseum, this was a complicated deal with over 30 different barrel lots. Lot 166 is a our own proprietary blend utilizing some of the best of those barrel lots. In fact, the base wine is a fantastic Walla Walla Merlot (WW Merlot easily rivals WW Cabernet Sauvignon) with portions of the same Windrow Vineyard "Plateau" and "Hill" block Cabernet's found in Lots 131 and 162 blended in. Four barrels of rather stunning Petite Verdot put some real spine into the blend too, not that Walla Walla Cab and Merlot need much help in that department.

The result is a supple and seamless yet potent blend of spicy plum, cherry fruit and robust structure. Crafted from $45-$70/bottle components, Lot 166 is a phenomenally good deal at $18/bottle.

Deep garnet in the glass. Opens up beautifully with a couple minutes in the glass. Candied pie cherry, spicy plum, brown sugar, cocoa, and toasted french oak are just now beginning to unwind. The wine is seamless and supple on entry, layered and vibrant across the palate with mouth-watering cherry, spice, and savory depths of barrel spices supported by a robust-yet-well-integrated structure that indicates there is a lot more to come here. Outstanding.
