GOLD MEDAL - 93 Points | LA International Wine Competition 2022

Today's release comes to us from a vineyard in the southern reaches of the Napa Valley, a cool-to-moderate site sitting just north of highway 12 on the hilltops above Sheehy and Soscol Creeks. Here the Mt. George volcanics mix with uplifted alluvial's to create the low-yielding conditions that can even ripen Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (which, despite the cooler weather conditions, is actually heavily-planted here). And while this is a southern valley location, this is not really a cool-climate-style (like the gorgeous N.136 Adelaida Syrah) but rather a deep, dark, delicious and perfectly-ripe example of classic hillside Napa Syrah.

The producer (located further up-Valley) spares no expense with this wine and its actually quite a reasonable value at their price range of $45-$55/bottle versus where you would normally price a hillside Syrah aged in 60% new French oak. Lush, open-knit, rich and ripe, I think this will have tremendous appeal to Syrah fans as well as Napa Cabernet-lovers. A steal at $20/bottle.

Opaque/inky in the glass. Redolent with a meaty plum and brown sugar core haloed by sweet lavender, blackberry jam and chocolate. Plush and juicy on the palate with dusty plum, cocoa, fresh blackberry and a pretty anise notes but well-structured with chewy, hillside tannins coated in rich black fruit. The finish is very long, echoing with dark fruit and seasoned oak. Fabulous.

100% Syrah, 100% Napa Valley
60% new French oak
15% alc.
