2018 Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon

Old world meets new in this harmonious and deftly balanced high-elevation, hillside Cabernet. Densely colored with aromas of blackcurrant, plum and blackberry mingling with shiitake mushroom, graphite and white flowers and just a kiss of brown sugar oak. Well proportioned, elegant and refined throughout with a creamy texture and silky sweet tannins, this incredibly well-crafted Cabernet will have broad appeal. Drink now or hold for another decade or two.

Check-in tasting 6.23.21 - This is seriously classy juice. Nice, seasoned oak mocha and woody resin notes out of the bottle…fruit and tertiary aromas start to punch through with air...tobacco, leather, black cherry, black current and toffee. Finally coming around and integrating the oak. Decant for a couple hours or 24-hour decant.

So glad I still have another half case!

"Last night we opened a bottle of this big cab. We probably rushed things a little after I had just flown home and we wanted to finally eat. But even with only 30 minutes from opening the bottle and decanting we were treated to a fabulous experience. I had bought this wine several years ago, and my cellaring notes say it was "wine of the year" (by whose opinion I don't know, and I always take that with a grain of salt). My notes also say that I spent $21 for each bottle (with six remaining, yeah!) for what was then said to be an $85 bottle. We were taken by the smooth tannins, deep vanilla notes, and lingering mouthfeel. I'll add to my notes to add more time after opening so that the experience will be even more elevated."

"Opened a couple of days ago and oh my - what a great wine - glad I waited! Serve with a big steak - Ribeye or Picanha (which is what we had it with) So good I wish I had bought more - only 11 bottles left and they aren't going to last!"
