Sourced from a Howell Mountain producer famous for their dedication to only producing Cabernet from high-elevation, hillside sites, this Atlas Peak Cabernet is fourth and final Atlas Peak Cabernet we acquired.

Again, dark in the glass but much prettier at this point than the previous AP Cab with sweet, succulent florals that initially hide the beast beneath. Soon the florals just disappear (typical of bottle-shocked wine) and you are left with a concave nose of brooding dark fruit and earth that, at this point, are fairly impenetrable. After a few minutes of air, faint wisps of black cherry, earth and rock join the re-emerging florals but its only fleeting. Clearly there is more here than meets the eye. Smooth and juicy on entry with a wonderful impression of sucosite; however, the midpalate bound up with a big woolly ball of tannin. We get going again after about 5 seconds when the tannins unfurl in a wave of pretty red fruit and rock. The ever-shifting nature of this wine is typical of a recently bottled hillside Cabernet. I am 100% confident this will be drinking with much higher coherence when it reaches your doorstep this Fall. You have my word this will be spectacular when it comes around - its an incredible value at $35/bottle
