2021 SOMMELIERS CHALLENGE WINE COMPETITION

Lot 218 is a stylistically right-up-the-middle, knockout Syrah that comes to us from the same producer as Lot 250 Rutherford Cabernet and Lot 222 Rutherford Merlot. Due to the recent sale of the winery and the concomitant re-sizing of the portfolio, we were able to get our hands on these three fantastic wines.

Again, this is another no-expense-spared offering including 60% new French oak. The grapes were all estate-grown and produced; interestingly enough, however, the different blocks that comprise this Syrah actually straddle both Rutherford and St. Helena so the wine is labelled Napa Valley. Rest assured, this is some killer dirt.

Here we go folks...deep, rich, ripe Rutherford/St. Helena Syrah sold at the winery $60, yours for $24.

Deep garnet/purple. Peppery, meaty black plum dark clay/earth are haloed by sage anise, lavender spice. Red rock and raspberry notes emerge with air. Smooth and seamless on entry with ample, well-integrated tannin carrying black fruit, earthen clay and toffee notes across lively midpalate and long, resplendent finish. Boom!

100% Syrah, 100% Napa Valley mix of Rutherford and St. Helena fruit, same vineyard
60% new French oak
14.7% alc.
