92-POINTS, GOLD MEDAL
2021 SOMMELIERS CHALLENGE WINE COMPETITION

Lot 218 is a stylistically right-up-the-middle, knockout Syrah that comes to us from the same producer as Lot 250 Rutherford Cabernet and Lot 222 Rutherford Merlot. This is another no-expense-spared offering including 60% new French oak. The grapes were all estate-grown and produced; interestingly enough, however, the different blocks that comprise this Syrah actually straddle both Rutherford and St. Helena so the wine is labelled Napa Valley. Rest assured, this is some killer dirt.

Deep garnet/purple. Peppery, meaty black plum dark clay/earth are haloed by sage anise, lavender spice. Red rock and raspberry notes emerge with air. Smooth and seamless on entry with ample, well-integrated tannin carrying black fruit, earthen clay and toffee notes across lively mid-palate and long, resplendent finish.

Great with sweet and savory

"We have opened two bottles of this 2019 Napa Valley Syrah (Lot 218) - one with a Moroccan stew and the other with duck legs, onions and cabbage. The pairing worked well with both. We will definitely order more"

Joseph M. (4/5)

Another great denogoce find.

"Killer CA Syrah. I like big, meaty CA Syrahs. This one did not disappoint Beautiful nose, briars berries, nice oakiness, integrated tannins. Only disappointment is that this is my last bottle! Great find by Denogoce"

Drinks like a cab!

"This is the third time we have purchased this wine and we have recommended it to others as well! The Napa Syrah is a very pleasant, full bodied, nicely structured wine with deep red/dark fruit and low acidity. I would recommend a at least a 30 minute decant before serving."

Will be a nice weekday meal wine

"Developing nicely for a Tranche I QPR pricing. Not the most complex Syrah now, but should come all together in 2025 for a bottled June 2021 wine."

Great wine here!

"Now we're talking - great wine here - gets netter with BBQ or a juicy burger with bleu cheese - great with dark chocolate cherries as well....can't go wrong with this one - drinks like a much more $$$$ choice"

Steve S. (5/5)

Mature and lovely

"Very pleased with this wine. Body that stands up to grilled meats and yet soft tannins allow it to be enjoyed with cheese in the afternoon."

Nelson H. (5/5)
