Description

Lot 578 is an ambitious 100% single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Carved into the Santa Lucia Mountains high above sea level, our source’s vines yield wonderfully concentrated yet balanced fruit, which their winemaker crafts into a bottling that’s unmistakably California but with Bordeaux in its soul. Given the litany of big names in every direction, we’ve agreed to declassify it from Adelaida District to Paso Robles in order to make the deal happen – with an original price point in $60+/bottle territory, this sublime offering is available today for under $15! QPR for high-end California Cab just doesn’t get much better.

Pouring a dense crimson in the glass, the wine opens with aromas of mulberry and dark raspberry layered with pencil shavings, cherries, and savory herbs. The palate is full yet composed, combining ripe fruit depth with freshness and a firm mineral backbone. Fine tannins carry the structure seamlessly, leading to a persistent and evolving finish that shifts from baking spice to subtle toast and lingering red fruits. Classic.

Paso Robles is a bright spot in California wine country right now – while Napa is experiencing a quiet correction and Sonoma is seeing an even tighter squeeze, Paso has held strong when it comes to demand stability. Premium Cabernet sales are actually up over the past year; its reputation for top-shelf quality without the North Coast price tag appears to resonate more than ever. As always, we only hunt for the best, and are happy to introduce a bombshell for Semi-Annual Sale Daily Deal #4 to the tune of 75% OFF!

The Adelaida District AVA is home to the region’s most serious Cabernet terroir – think of it as Paso’s Rutherford/Oakville when it comes to prestige. Positioned in the Santa Lucia Mountains, its ancient calcareous soils, high elevation, and large diurnal swings produce sensational Cabernet grapes, and a quick glance at a map will reveal that many of Paso’s most influential estates call this area home.

A massive diurnal swing (among the largest in the state) creates an extended growing season, allowing this late ripening varietal to fully mature while retaining ample acidity. In 2023, a long, stormy winter delayed bud break, and the cool weather didn’t relent, persisting all the way through early fall and pushing harvest back three weeks. Consistently mild weather allowed our source to pick at their leisure, resulting in perfect sugar to acidity balance. 20 months in 100% French oak unlocked another dimension, taking the refinement to an even higher level.
