A massive diurnal swing (among the largest in the state) creates an extended growing season, allowing this late ripening varietal to fully mature while retaining ample acidity. In 2023, a long, stormy winter delayed bud break, and the cool weather didn’t relent, persisting all the way through early fall and pushing harvest back three weeks. Consistently mild weather allowed our source to pick at their leisure, resulting in perfect sugar to acidity balance. 20 months in 100% French oak unlocked another dimension, taking the refinement to an even higher level.
Pouring a dense crimson in the glass, the wine opens with aromas of mulberry and dark raspberry layered with pencil shavings, cherries, and savory herbs.
