Description

Lot 588 is a single-vineyard, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a family-owned Sonoma winery with long ties to this storied appellation. As they’ve done for decades, our source uses generations of winemaking know-how to produce timeless expressions of world-class terroir. This bottling is aged a bit a longer than other local offerings – an extra production cost that is now yours to capitalize on, given how much demand has shifted in the industry since this wine first went into barrel. The original price of entry begins at $120, but exceptional times and financial realities call for exceptional circumstances. As always, we pass the savings on to you – in this case, a staggering number at over 80% OFF!

Powerfully expressive, the wine opens with an aromatic interplay of graphite, menthol, and crushed volcanic rock wrapped around a core of black cherry, plum, and cracked peppercorns. The entry is rich and structured, showcasing age-worthy componentry in every direction – high-toned cherry, deep leather, black fruit, and cedar resin unfold, anchored by medium-plus acidity and plentiful dry, grippy tannins. The finish is long and mineral-driven, leading into additional dark fruit, vanilla bean, and earth. Decant this generously if opening young, but keep plenty for future special occasions.

Moon Mountain’s high-elevation vineyards sit above Sonoma Valley on the Mayacamas Range, directly influenced by cooling air that funnels through the Petaluma Gap and across San Pablo Bay. These persistent breezes moderate daytime heat, giving the wines uncommon freshness for a mountain appellation. The AVA’s hallmark, however, is its fractured volcanic soils, which compel vines to root deeply in search of moisture and impart the region’s signature mineral edge. The fruit for this wine was hand-picked and hand-sorted before a long, gentle fermentation with extended maceration in stainless steel to emphasize purity. The wine then aged for 24 months in the finest French oak barrels (about 50% new) prior to settling.
