Lot 591
2022 Sonoma County Red Blend 12-bottle case
Lot 591 is a 92-point James Suckling scored (under our label) Right Bank-inspired red blend sourced from historic vineyards in Sonoma. Taking a cue from the wines of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, the classic 1-2 pairing of Cabernet Franc and Merlot lead the way, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot skillfully added to take it to the next level. The result is an intricate wine that’s smooth and graceful yet powerful – an impeccable balance achieved through deft craftsmanship by the source’s winemaker, who apprenticed under some of the California greats. We’ve agreed to declassify the label appellation, and while mentioning exact varietal percentages and price under original label are a no-go, know that it’s well over $50/bottle, putting this offer into 70% OFF territory (with plenty of upwards wiggle room).
Medium ruby on the pour, pressed cherries and blueberries parade out of the glass, buoyed by wooded spice and garrigue with hints of eucalyptus and cassis on the rim. The entry is balanced and uplifted, with a line of medium-plus acidity wrapped around red berries, chocolate, and turned leaves amid plentiful velvety tannins. On the finish, a lingering spice is underpinned by red fruit with vanilla bean and a final echo of eucalyptus, gliding effortlessly across an impressively sustained close. Splendid.
