Lot 613 is estate-grown, single-vineyard, 100% mountain magic. Straight out of central casting for mountain volcanic intensity, it’s sourced from one of a tiny handful of active local wineries – a tight community making some of the most sought-after red wines in the country. Given the short list of candidates, there’s very little we can say in the way of production or pricing that wouldn’t give away this wine’s origins, but a quick online search will show the baseline for Cabs up here is around $125/bottle (with plenty much higher), and there are no wrong choices – you’re basically picking between Rolls-Royce and Bentley. But as always, no showroom trophy prices for the members of our list – our negotiations have secured this for under $25/bottle, and over 80% OFF the original price.

The nose opens with a surge of dark fruits right out of the gate, followed by iron and clay dust before trailing with crushed florals, graphite, eucalyptus, and mint. Not that the Cab wonks on this list need reminding, but for the uninitiated, here’s why collectors go so crazy for Diamond Mountain: The very concept of single-vineyard mountain Cabernet was pioneered on these slopes, and the extremely rugged terrain only allows for a smattering of plots – there are barely 10 wineries in the entire region (many of whose bottlings are considered "cult" status). With the obsidian-rich volcanic soils and high-elevation exposure producing grapes like nowhere else, the resulting wines are naturally stunning. Because it's one of Napa's smallest districts by volume, supply is limited, making every bottle a prized commodity typically scooped up by a privileged few.

Vineyard and fermentation details and the exact aging specs are hush hush, but with such a limited harvest of precious grapes to begin with, no one up here is using anything other than the finest winemaking inputs.
